Medical Scientific Data Sharing Project is an important project of National Scientific Data Sharing Project , which belongs to National Facilities and Information Infrastructure for Science and Technology . The project is jointly recommended by Ministry of Health of People's Republic of China , Department of Health of the General Logistics Department of PLA , State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of People's Republic of China and State Food and Drug Administration , and the project is jointly applied by six research academies of Chinese Academy of Medical Science , Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention , General Hospital of PLA , China Academy of Chinese Medical Science, Information Center of State Food and Drug Administration and Academy of Military Medical Science of PLA .

The project was approved by Ministry of Science and Technology of People's Republic of China and started in April of 2004. The goal of Medical Scientific Data Sharing Project is to build an administrative and service sharing network for scientific data of medical field , and the network must be physically well-distributed , clearly layered , logically consistent and fully shared . The main character of the project includes combinations between prevention and treatment , basic medicine and clinical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine , military research and civilian research .  Through the construction of the network and data resources , the project will realize the float and sharing of medical scientific data resource from different specialties and professions  and eventually meet the information needs that come from the government's administration for public health, medical staff's research and daily practice , public health consultation and related industries. To ensure the Project's success , we follow the principals of National Scientific Data Sharing Project from the very beginning , and established the organization of a leader group, an expert group and a work group , to carry duties of argumentation , evaluation , design , operation , oversee and administration respectively.

Considering that the project requires a number of research institutions , we insist on establishing a general center for the sharing network , the general center contains research for principals and operation mechanism for sharing network , and the construction for an resource sharing system , standardization system and technical platform. In the nearly future , the general center will provide uniformed support and administration for all the data centers.
