Born in Henan, China on 2 January 1932. B.Sc., 1954, Dept of Soil Sciences and Agricultural Chemistry, Beijing Agricultural Uni.; M.Sc. (Pedology), 1960, Shenyang Institute of Forestry and Soil Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
