Eva Siekierska

At the present time Dr. Eva Siekierska is working in the Ministry of the Natural Resources of Canada, Earth Sciences Sector, Geomatics Canada. She is a leader of a project team working on a Visualization of Integrated Knowledge for Sustainable Development Decision Making [http://sdki.nrcan.gc.ca].

Her previous positions included: Manager of Innovation and Technology Service and an Assistant Director of the Applied Research and Development Service at the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Resources, Canada. Her main research interests are conventional and electronic cartography, mapping for blind and visually impaired, gender and cartography and visualization in application to sustainable development of natural resources. Additionally, she has strong interest in academic teaching. For past six years she held a position of Adjunct Research Professor at the Carleton University, Ottawa. She also served as a Visiting Professor at the ITC (Aero Surveys and Earth Sciences Institute), in Enschede, the Netherlands.

Dr. E. Siekierska is active in the International Cartographic Associations, where is chaired Commission on Gender and Cartography, co-chaired Commission on National and Regional Atlases and participated in Commissions on Maps and Internet and Commission on Visualization and Virtual Environments.

She is a recipient of several awards including 2003 Public Service of Canada APEX award for Leadership in Service Innovation received for a new approach service to benefit Canadians with special needs.
