WDC for Geophysics, China

In the past years, we have established and developed a website and several databases in World Data Center for geophysics, Beijing (website is http://gp.wdc.cn).

1. Technological route of WDC for geophysics, Beijing

(1).At the end of last century, website was based on HTML language offered simple data service.

(2).In 2000-2002, we set up the database based on ASP language and SyBase environment, served the system at special network server and harddisk. Adopting IBM X220 as the network server, RaidTec SNAZ NAS as the network services, the capacity is nearly 300GB in all, establish independent websites.

(3).In 2003, we used PHP language and MySQL environment for minute mean value observed network instead.

(4).With constantly upgrade and improvement, at present we have adopt ORACLE as the database. JSP (Java Server Pages) technology to creating dynamic pages.

2. The functions of the website of WDC for Geophysics, Beijing

The basic function of the network is store, check, inquire and renew the data. Users can not merely look over and download the data in txt form; they can also see picture generate with Matlab as soon as they submit conditions of inquiring. At present the system is running well, it has two versions: Chinese and English, both of them have Unified style. The pages are simple and convenient.

System users have already covered most provinces of the whole country, including Taiwan . In some developed or developing countries, such as U.S.A. , Europe, Japan , Singapore , Bulgaria , Canada etc, there is different visit capacity too. Accompanying with the ongoing of the data sharing project, WDC for Geophysics will collect, reorganize and distribute more and more geophysical and other related data freely.
