Ever since e-science was brought forward at the end of the 20th century, many countries in the world have been paying great attention to it, which has brought about important influences to scientific researches of scientists in many countries. Nowadays the U.S., UK, Germany, China and European countries has established respective e-science infrastructure environment. E-science appeared in the meantime with the quick development of modern information technology and the appearance of more and more complicated scientific problems. It is a digital scientific research environment based on high-speed network, supercomputer, mass storage technology, grid technology, and large scale collaboration of scientific resources; it is also a cyberinfrastructure which provides a digital scientific research environment and platform, and enables scientific researches and activities of different disciplines and areas to develop specific scientific researches and applications, therefore the application of scientific research activities is one main axis of e-science. This session will mainly introduce the latest progress of e-science researches in the world and important scientific researches and application based upon e-science, and study new technologies and frontier problems relating to e-science.
